Meet Michael Cashman

As the Town of Plattsburgh’s youngest elected supervisor, Michael Cashman made history by making government more transparent, fiscally accountable and responsive to our families’ needs.

Now, he’ running for State Assembly because he wants to bring that energy to Albany.

From Working-Class Roots to North Country Pride

Bringing People Together To Build a Stronger Future

Honoring Service and Strengthening Civic Engagement

Raised in a working-class family, Michael grew up understanding the power of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of service to others. When he moved to the North Country to attend SUNY Plattsburgh, he found more than just a college town he fell in love twice. First with his wife, Olivia, and then with the region itself. The welcoming spirit, strong family values, and close-knit community inspired them to build their life here and lay down lasting roots.

Guided by these values, Michael has dedicated decades to making the North Country a stronger, more connected place. As a student, he took on leadership roles that encouraged connection and service, including founding the Adirondack Young Professionals (ADKYP) and helping to launch the United Way’s Annual Day of Caring. These early experiences fueled a lifelong passion for community building that shines through in his public service work today.

Michael has also devoted significant time to honoring and supporting veterans, a cause close to his heart. Working alongside the North Country Honor Flight program and partnering with the Clinton County American Legion on the Battlefield Memorial Gateway project, he helps ensure the sacrifices of service members are never forgotten. His grandfather’s military service is a constant source of pride and inspiration in his life and leadership.

Beyond his local work, Michael serves as Chair of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service and as a member of the Plattsburgh University Council. Through these roles, he continues to champion civic engagement and community building across the state always driven by the same spirit of service and connection that brought him to the North Country years ago.

On The Issues

Affordability That Works for You

The North Country is home to hardworking people and family businesses that keep our communities vibrant. We need an economy that works for everyone, while protecting the rural character and quality of life that make this region special.

  • Expand affordable childcare to help families
  • Fight rate hikes on heating and electricity to stop expenses rising
  • Prioritize housing affordability to help renters, expand first-time homebuyer programs and ensure seniors can age in place
  • Support our small businesses by cutting red tape and lowering costs.

Serious About Safety

Safety is a right, not a luxury. That means supporting the people who protect us, holding offenders accountable, and investing in the infrastructure we all rely on. We can protect our way of life while making sure our neighborhoods, roads and traditions are secure.

  • Keep our police, first responders and correction officers safe and supported
  • Fix Raise the Age to ensure people are held accountable for their crimes
  • Stem the flow of opioids and strengthen addiction and recovery resources

Protecting Our Future

When we invest in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, we’re not just fixing problems, we’re building a future where the next generation can thrive. Protecting our healthcare, fixing our roads and bridges, and investing in education is the foundation of a strong, connected North Country.

  • Fight to protect rural healthcare from federal cuts
  • Invest in education and the trades to help the next generations get ahead
  • Invest in infrastructure for everyone, from rural water and waste to roads and bridges
  • Connect our rural communities with affordable, high-speed broadband

“These are divisive times, but we’re strongest
when we have each other’s backs. North Country families need lower costs, good paying jobs and a leader who will always put results first.”
